A field visit for Third Year Civil Engineering (TYCE) students of JSPM’s Jayawantrao Sawant Polytechnic College, Hadapsar was organized to Khadakwasla Dam on 30-08-2025. The visit aimed to enhance students’ knowledge of hydraulic structures, water resource management, and dam engineering. The dam officials provided an overview of the dam’s history, construction type, storage capacity, catchment area, and its role in supplying water to Pune city.
Students studied the components of the dam, including the spillway, gates, reservoir, earthen embankments, and inspection galleries. The engineers explained the functioning of the outlet systems, flood management techniques, and safety monitoring instruments used to ensure the structural stability of the dam. Students also learned about sedimentation issues, seasonal water levels, and maintenance practices adopted by the irrigation department.
