Description:
A Guest Lecture on Building Information Modelling (BIM) was organized on 18th August 2025 for the students of the Diploma Civil Engineering Department. The session was delivered by Mr. Kautubh Panse, an experienced professional in BIM technology and digital construction processes. The objective of the lecture was to enhance students’ understanding of modern construction tools and to introduce them to emerging trends in the civil engineering industry.
Mr. Panse began the session by explaining the concept of BIM as a digital representation of the physical and functional characteristics of a building. He highlighted how BIM integrates various aspects of a project, such as architecture, structure, and services, into a single coordinated model. The speaker also discussed the advantages of BIM, including improved accuracy, reduced errors, enhanced visualization, and effective project planning.
During the lecture, Mr. Panse demonstrated the application of BIM software in real-world projects. He showed how 3D modelling, clash detection, quantity estimation, and scheduling (4D & 5D BIM) improve efficiency in construction workflows. Students also gained insights into how BIM supports sustainable design and aids in decision-making throughout the project life cycle.
